The heartbeat of Scottish kilt making

You can't make a kilt without tartan! The Isle mill is the largest weaver of tartan in Scotland stocking 1000s of tartans in a variety of weights, all designed and made right here in Scotland from natural fibre blends and pure new wool.

Here are Artisans of Scotland our passion is to celebrate and promote Scottish crafts people and the beautiful products they create. The Isle Mill is an incredible example of a transitional artisan that has stood the test of tim, ensuring that a kilt can be entirely Scottish from the wool, through the hands of the kilt maker to you the wearer.

Weaving for more than 200 years

While the mill itself has embraced change over the last 200 years of weaving, it is deeply rooted in history and traditional techniques. Proud of their heritage, the team continue to use a mix of old and new, starkly evident as you walk through the mill.

Nothing makes us happier at Artisans of Scotland than a product that is truly Scottish in nature. Scotland boasts world class sheep farming that produces beautiful wool, which makes it way to our weavers, who turn it into spectacular Scottish fabrics. Whether it's a tweed for a jacket, tartan for a kilt or a cosy blanket, you know it's been made with love right here in Scotland.
